Heating Networks with a Future for Municipal Utilities—Large-Scale Heat Pumps as the Key to Sustainable Heating

Ulrich Dietrich, GP JOULE Wärme GmbH & Co. KG

Language: German

The heat transition presents municipal utilities with the challenge of developing their heating networks in an economically viable, climate-friendly, and future-proof way. Large-scale heat pumps play a central role in this process: they tap into renewable and previously unused heat sources, reduce the use of fossil fuels, and enable efficient network operation.

Using practical examples, the presentation shows how large-scale heat pumps can be successfully integrated into existing and new heating networks, and which technical, economic, and regulatory framework conditions need to be considered. It will also highlight opportunities for combining them with other technologies such as heat storage systems, photovoltaics, or power-to-heat.

Participants will gain an overview of current developments, insights from implemented projects, and concrete recommendations for planning and implementing sustainable heating networks.
