In logistics properties, building services systems are often designed on the basis of standardised DIN values and substantial safety margins. This frequently results in unnecessarily high investment costs, greater material use and, consequently, a larger carbon footprint. But how much building services equipment does a logistics facility actually need?
Modern building simulations enable a reliable assessment of actual requirements based on real-world weather and usage data. The result can be less technical equipment, lower investment costs and an improved environmental footprint.
The EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and Germany’s Building Modernisation Act (Gebäudemodernisierungsgesetz – GmodG) are increasing the requirements for both new and existing buildings. While the focus to date has primarily been on operational energy efficiency and high insulation standards, increasing attention is now being paid to the materials used and the carbon footprint of building services systems.
Using specific real-world examples, the presentation will show how project developers and building owners can use building simulation to reduce investment costs while improving their sustainability performance.
