Rising energy costs, limited grid connections and the electrification of heating, processes and vehicle fleets are fundamentally changing the requirements for industrial and logistics sites. Competitiveness is no longer determined solely by the price of electricity, but increasingly also by the available connected load and the ability to use energy flexibly.
This presentation will examine three assumptions that often no longer hold true under today’s conditions:
- Energy prices will fall again of their own accord.
Electrification reduces dependence on fossil fuels, but requires significant investment in grids and infrastructure. - Generating our own renewable energy makes us independent of external electricity prices.
PV systems reduce energy costs, but require storage and flexibility to economically balance generation and consumption. - Battery storage is only worthwhile if you have your own PV system.
Storage systems create economic value even without PV – for example, through load management, the virtual expansion of existing grid connections, or the electrification of sites and fleets.
Using specific real-world examples, the presentation demonstrates how industrial and logistics sites can reduce grid bottlenecks, enable electrification, and make their energy supply more economical, resilient and independent in the long term.
