Peter Schweinschwaller is serving his third term as President of the European Confederation of Tobacconists (C.E.D.T.). A native of Lower Austria, he began representing the Austrian tobacconists’ association in Brussels in 2015, became C.E.D.T. Treasurer in 2016, and was first elected President in 2019 after serving as Executive Vice President. He was re-elected in 2022 and again in June 2025 in Liège, Belgium. Under his leadership, C.E.D.T. has transformed from a little-known body into an active voice in Brussels, collaborating with non-members and engaging in EU policy discussions. Thanks to its cross-border representation, practical expertise, and independence from industry influence, the association is a valued interlocutor for EU institutions, offering member countries both an avenue for influence and an early warning system on upcoming regulations.
