Von 1994 bis 2003 Mitglied des Niedersächsischen Landtags der 13. und 14. Wahlperiode für die Fraktion Bündnis 90/Grüne. In dieser Zeit u.a. Mitglied der Ausschüsse für Haushalt und Finanzen, für Wirtschaft und Verkehr, Wissenschaft und Kultur, Medien, Geschäftsordnung, des Ältestenrates und des 18. Parlamentarischen Untersuchungsausschusses.
Nach dem Ausscheiden aus dem Landtag Wechsel in den Landesdienst, zunächst zum Niedersächsischen Landesrechnungshof, von dort abgeordnet und später dann versetzt in das Niedersächsische Ministerium für Inneres und Sport (MI), konkret in die damalige Stabsstelle Verwaltungsmodernisierung. Nach Ende einer mehrmonatigen Abordnung in die Haushaltsabteilung des Niedersächsischen Finanzministeriums, ab Beginn des Jahres 2006 Referatsleiter (RL) für Haushalt und Mittelfristige Planung und damit Beauftragter für den Haushalt des Einzelplans 03, ab 2010 in Personalunion Referatsgruppenleiter für Verwaltungsmodernisierung. In 2011 beauftragt mit dem Aufbau der damaligen IT-Abteilung im MI, danach Ständiger Vertreter der wechselnden IT-Abteilungsleitungen, zunächst als RL für IT-Infrastruktur und Fachaufsicht über die im Geschäftsbereich des MI angesiedelten Landesbetriebe, danach als RL für IT-Strategie; zudem Vorsitzender des Unterausschusses „Allgemeine Verwaltungsorganisation“ der Innenministerkonferenz.
Von Juni 2017 bis April 2026 Präsident des Landesamtes für Geoinformation und Landesvermessung Niedersachsen (LGLN). Seit April 2026 Leiter der Abteilung 4 (Vermögen und Finanzmarktpolitik, Finanzbeziehungen, Finanzkontrolle) des Niedersächsischen Finanzministeriums.

From 1994 to 2003, he was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament for the 13th and 14th legislative periods, representing the Bündnis 90/The Greens parliamentary group. During this time, he served, amongst other things, on the Committees on Budget and Finance, on Economy and Transport, on Science and Culture, on Media, on Rules of Procedure, on the Council of Elders, and on the 18th Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry.
After leaving the State Parliament, he joined the civil service, initially at the Lower Saxony State Audit Office; from there he was seconded and later transferred to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport (MI), specifically to what was then the Administrative Modernisation Unit. Following the end of a secondment lasting several months to the Budget Department of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Finance, he became Head of Division (RL) for Budget and Medium-Term Planning at the start of 2006, and thus the officer responsible for the budget of Section 03; from 2010, he concurrently held the post of Head of Division Group for Administrative Modernisation. In 2011, he was tasked with setting up the then IT department within the MI; subsequently, he served as permanent representative to the successive heads of the IT department, initially as Head of Division for IT Infrastructure and technical supervision of the state-owned enterprises within the MI’s remit, and subsequently as Head of Division for IT Strategy; he also chaired the ‘General Administrative Organisation’ sub-committee of the Conference of Interior Ministers.
President of the Lower Saxony State Office for Geoinformation and Surveying (LGLN) from June 2017 to April 2026. Since April 2026, Head of Department 4 (Assets and Financial Market Policy, Financial Relations, Financial Control) at the Lower Saxony Ministry of Finance.
