Ihre Moderation wird getragen von jahrelanger Erfahrung als Reporterin und Redakteurin – sowohl vor, als auch hinter der Kamera. Unter anderem bei RTL, Axel-Springer Digital TV, der Deutschen Welle, dem MDR und natürlich dem ZDF. Dort hat sie fast ein Jahrzehnt das ZDF-Morgenmagazin moderiert, war im „Außendienst“ für das Auslandsjournal unterwegs und hat als Reporterin von den Wahlsendungen berichtet und bis heute dort vor und hinter der Kamera unterwegs.
Im MDR hat sie von 2014 bis 2025 die Talkshow „Fakt ist!“ aus Magdeburg moderiert und für den Sender Wahlarenen und Spitzenkandidatenrunden vor den Landtagswahlen bestritten.
Doch neben der Politik sind es vor allem aktuelle gesellschaftspolitische Entwicklungen, die sie in ihrem Alltag beschäftigen: Klimawandel, die Alterung der Gesellschaft, Digitalisierung und Kommunikation. Ein Schwerpunkt in Ihrer Arbeit ist die Transformation und ihre Auswirkungen in Ostdeutschland.
Auf der Suche nach Lösungen hat sie auf alles eine Frage und manchmal einen ziemlich schrägen Humor.

Her presenting style is underpinned by years of experience as a reporter and editor – both in front of and behind the camera. These include stints at RTL, Axel Springer Digital TV, Deutsche Welle, MDR and, of course, ZDF. There, she presented the ZDF Morgenmagazin for almost a decade, worked in the field for the Auslandsjournal, reported on election programmes as a correspondent, and continues to work there both in front of and behind the camera to this day.
At MDR, she presented the talk show “Fakt ist!” from Magdeburg from 2014 to 2025 and hosted election debates and rounds of discussions with leading candidates for the broadcaster ahead of the state elections.
But alongside politics, it is above all current socio-political developments that occupy her in her day-to-day life: climate change, an ageing society, digitalisation and communication. A key focus of her work is transformation and its impact in eastern Germany.
In her search for solutions, she has a question for everything – and sometimes a rather offbeat sense of humour.
Von 1994 bis 2003 Mitglied des Niedersächsischen Landtags der 13. und 14. Wahlperiode für die Fraktion Bündnis 90/Grüne. In dieser Zeit u.a. Mitglied der Ausschüsse für Haushalt und Finanzen, für Wirtschaft und Verkehr, Wissenschaft und Kultur, Medien, Geschäftsordnung, des Ältestenrates und des 18. Parlamentarischen Untersuchungsausschusses.
Nach dem Ausscheiden aus dem Landtag Wechsel in den Landesdienst, zunächst zum Niedersächsischen Landesrechnungshof, von dort abgeordnet und später dann versetzt in das Niedersächsische Ministerium für Inneres und Sport (MI), konkret in die damalige Stabsstelle Verwaltungsmodernisierung. Nach Ende einer mehrmonatigen Abordnung in die Haushaltsabteilung des Niedersächsischen Finanzministeriums, ab Beginn des Jahres 2006 Referatsleiter (RL) für Haushalt und Mittelfristige Planung und damit Beauftragter für den Haushalt des Einzelplans 03, ab 2010 in Personalunion Referatsgruppenleiter für Verwaltungsmodernisierung. In 2011 beauftragt mit dem Aufbau der damaligen IT-Abteilung im MI, danach Ständiger Vertreter der wechselnden IT-Abteilungsleitungen, zunächst als RL für IT-Infrastruktur und Fachaufsicht über die im Geschäftsbereich des MI angesiedelten Landesbetriebe, danach als RL für IT-Strategie; zudem Vorsitzender des Unterausschusses „Allgemeine Verwaltungsorganisation“ der Innenministerkonferenz.
Von Juni 2017 bis April 2026 Präsident des Landesamtes für Geoinformation und Landesvermessung Niedersachsen (LGLN). Seit April 2026 Leiter der Abteilung 4 (Vermögen und Finanzmarktpolitik, Finanzbeziehungen, Finanzkontrolle) des Niedersächsischen Finanzministeriums.
From 1994 to 2003, he was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament for the 13th and 14th legislative periods, representing the Bündnis 90/The Greens parliamentary group. During this time, he served, amongst other things, on the Committees on Budget and Finance, on Economy and Transport, on Science and Culture, on Media, on Rules of Procedure, on the Council of Elders, and on the 18th Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry.
After leaving the State Parliament, he joined the civil service, initially at the Lower Saxony State Audit Office; from there he was seconded and later transferred to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport (MI), specifically to what was then the Administrative Modernisation Unit. Following the end of a secondment lasting several months to the Budget Department of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Finance, he became Head of Division (RL) for Budget and Medium-Term Planning at the start of 2006, and thus the officer responsible for the budget of Section 03; from 2010, he concurrently held the post of Head of Division Group for Administrative Modernisation. In 2011, he was tasked with setting up the then IT department within the MI; subsequently, he served as permanent representative to the successive heads of the IT department, initially as Head of Division for IT Infrastructure and technical supervision of the state-owned enterprises within the MI’s remit, and subsequently as Head of Division for IT Strategy; he also chaired the ‘General Administrative Organisation’ sub-committee of the Conference of Interior Ministers.

Prof. Dr. Dörte Diemert ist seit Januar 2019 Stadtkämmerin der Stadt Köln und damit hauptverantwortliche Finanzmanagerin. Ihr Dezernat umfasst neben der Kämmerei und dem Steueramt auch das Amt für Recht, Vergabe und Versicherungen, die Stabsstelle für Beteiligungssteuerung und öffentliches Finanz- und Unternehmensrecht sowie das Amt für die Gleichstellung von Frauen und Männern.
Seite 1. Juli 2026 ist Prof. Dr. Dörte Diemert zudem Stadtdirektorin und damit Stellvertreterin von Kölns Oberbürgermeister Torsten Burmester.
City Treasurer Professor Dr Dörte Diemert, City of Cologne
Prof. Dr Dörte Diemert has been City Treasurer of the City of Cologne since January 2019 and is therefore the chief financial officer. In addition to the Treasury and the Tax Office, her department also comprises the Office for Legal Affairs, Procurement and Insurance, the Staff Unit for Investment Management and Public Finance and Corporate Law, and the Office for Gender Equality.
From 1 July 2026, Prof. Dr Dörte Diemert will also serve as City Director and thus as deputy to Cologne’s Lord Mayor, Torsten Burmester.
